The keys at geller-grimm.de give Stenopogoninae (for the fly, of course); the Manual of Nearctic Diptera goes to term Asilidae 38:face haired over lower 1/3 or less vs. mystax covering lower half or more. Does the downey yellow hair count or not? If not, the key ends at Dioctria (Dasypogoninae) - does this look reasonable? Any chance of taking it further? (It has pulvilli; the front tibia apical spines are straight and equal.) John Sankey attached the following image: ![]() [100.9Kb] Edited by John Sankey on 16-10-2012 13:24 |

Many thanks, Paul - I'm still so green with Diptera keys that I really need to have a reality check from an expert. Now to see if I can find a species key to NA species... |
