Hello

today I found on Helleborus foetidus and Eranthis hyemalis under a big tree a Scaeva with spots like S. dignota - or is it just S. selenica?
I probably could make more fotos if necessary.

Thanks for helping! Regards Maja

Hello Maja,
It is indeed a female of Scaeva selenitica.
I see them often very early in the year, sometimes in large numbers on blooming willow!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
