This specimen is exhibited in Museum Mensch und Natur, Münich. It's put only as an example of a "fly", and it don't wear a scientific name like the rest of insects of the case. I found some images of the same species in Google search, but they're unidentified too.

I am not at my desk but it should be fairly easy to guess at a species. It is a male Pantophthalmus and my guess would be tabaninus. I will check when I get back to me keys.

Yeah, well I have had a quick look at my specimens. The problem with the genus is that they do look very similar ... tabaninus is still a possibility but a few others are too. I'd have to have the specimen and key if - or have some very detailed photos of the thorax, face and hind leg
