Loire-Atlantique, western France, July 08/2012. Gymnosoma I guess ... but who is the little pink one ? At least a Family name ? Thanks in advance !!!

Yep, a male Gymnosoma. And the little pink one is a female member of the Cecidomyiidae who is ovipositing in the flower. The latter seems to belong to the Compositae. Here we have active gall midges at the moment, ovipositing in the flower heads of Tanacetum vulgare. They greet their French relatives! |
