This Tipulidae looks like Nephrotoma but couldn't get further although was "hand-clap" collected by someone else. Vilafant, Girona Province, Catalonia, Iberian peninsula, 8-5-2012. 11 mm long; wingspan: 35 mm. Antenna with 13 segments. Grey pterostigma. Dark palps. Legs orange-brown, darkened at apical end of femora, and again from the middle of the tibia to the apical end. Halterium witha adark spot. General colour thorax yellow; head and abdomen orange; both three with black spots and stripes. rafael_carbonell attached the following image: ![]() [132.56Kb] |

I would say this is Nephrotoma submaculosa, quite common in Spain. See http://nlbif.eti.uva.nl/ccw/ for more details and pictures for this species. (for example search: Spain, Nephrotoma, habitus). For more information or identification queries, please reply to p.oosterbroek@chello.nl). Thanks, best wishes. Pjotr Oosterbroek |
