Big Asilidae (around 2,7 cm) eating a hoverfly. Mediterranean coastal area, Granada, S Spain. April 6, 2012.

This might well be Machimus cf nevadensis female

I have no experience with Spanish Asilidae. I used key by Engel and everything seemed to fit description. But a good shot of the front femora could help more (underside in particular). Even more would help if it was a male!Wink

This one is adifferent angle but interesting....At the top of femur 1 there is black bristle (also visible at first picture)...legs are black...I am pretty sure this is M. nevadensis.
