Hi everyone, i saw some flies flying over and perhaps laying eggs in Camponotus morosus ants here in Chile and i'm very curious to know what specie of fly is this. The fly was parasiting the ants while they were fighting, was a very interesting observation and you can see more photos here if your are interested: http://www.lamarabunta.org/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=25340&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=0 and the photos for the ID are these: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() i will be very happy if you can help me with this, THANKS!! Here's an introduction to ant-decapitating flies by Brian Brown: http://www.phorid...index.html My recollection is Apocephalus is the common genus of ant-decapitating flies but there are species of other genera with similar behavior. |
