Small Tachinid, enormously long 3rd antennal segment (virtually down to mouth-edge), thick hairless arista, distinctive head profile. Caught at Thurlby Gravel Pits near Lincoln UK SK889611 on 28/3/12.

Gravel pits sounds typical. My finds are from road banks and dry, sandy disturbed soils with ruderal flora. Havenīt seen it here in Germany but not uncommon in Finland as a "suburban species". We call the habitats as ruderates, less sophisticated term would be "wastelands between built areas".

I probably frequent too many good quality sites and miss out on things like this and Mintho, which hang around urban areas more
