Welcome to the forum Gideon Smile I am sure that more people will be along to help with the IDs ... but for the future it is better to post different flies in different threads because it gets confusing to readers sometimes when they are all mixed up Wink

BTW if photos of specific body parts (wing venation etc.) can help, please tell me.

Wing venation and pattern are necessary for the identification of the Bombylid, but usually they hover and don’t hold the wing still.

In general if you have photos from different angles then it helps ... that's another good reason to have 1 fly per thread, so that you can have lots of photos of the fly in there and show as much as possible Smile

Just wondering if the hoverfly might be a Merodon...

And for convenience sake, please, just one species in a thread, as per Code of Conduct?

Paul is right, the syrphids belong to Merodon.
Interesting picture, with the male apparently in mating position while hovering, holding the female and its genitalia folded out!

I will try to fix the messages this month. We have to make some other configuration changes before software goes out of support at end of year.
