Hello Reinoud,

Thank you again for all your reactions to my flies!
It seems that Tolmerus atricapillus is mostly found.
You asked about my environment. Here in Zeist we have many forests with many sandy places indeed and I don't think there are special places where I found them. Just anywhere. That is not a satisfying answer I guess. I may try to pay more attention to it this year. My environment has changed a lot last year, as they started cutting trees and levelling the fields.
I have the impression that last year I saw less than the year before.

Regards,
Hedy

I would agree, Tolmerus atricapillus is the most common robberfly of the Netherlands.

Your area seems pretty interesting. Levelling trees might be a good thing fot the Asilidae as many species like warmth and light. i think i wil do some investigation in the area of Maarn, probably toward Austerlitz or Leusder heide.Wink

Funny, I had the impression that they are more in bushes, as there are more insects.
I hardly go to the place where they cut the bushes, as there are not so many insects as there were before.
Leusderheide is great, I went there once...
But for insects I'm always here around in Zeist...
We will see your harvest...

Regards,
Hedy

We do need some trees, herbs and shrubbery and sunny forest edges indeed, but you will hardly find them in the shade. I will do my utmost....Cool
