I tried using a different key. I'm not sure it was successful. Small, as the piece of wood it perched upon is not more than 15mm thick, it, in turn, can't be more than 5-6 mm long, and I would suggest 4-5. 11 March 2011 On partially rotten timber In an ornamental garden Bosham, West Sussex. This one belongs in Anthomyiidae. (The parafacial/parafrontal strip widens around the antennal base - in Fannia it is like a continuous strap. For confirmation, in the full-resolution image you should be able to see the shape and length of the anal veins.) If you can see hairs on the eyes I would go for Lasiomma sp. Otherwise just Anthomyiidae male. |

No (visible) hairs on the eyes. I'll just change title to Anthomyiidae, then. Thanks, Will. |
