This is the second diddy fly. To my eyes it is very similar to the other one, but the stripes aren't quite the same and the abdo looks very different. Garden, summer, Mid-Essex. Thank you, Ginks Ginks attached the following image: ![]() [94.67Kb] |

Dear Ginks At first I have to say that identification of this family is difficult by picture, special if this pic taken from much distance that doesn't show any characters of that species. On the other hand, I should say we can't say this species and other one in this thread: ( http://diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=44640&pid=195133#post_195133 ) are the same, maybe this one Thaumatomyia sp. and anther one maybe Chlorops sp. but we can't be sure about except with watching characters in them. Also again I have to say that different patterns on their body, doesn’t show which they are different species, as we know there are very very much variations in a species as Thaumatomyia sp and like notata. So is better I don't judge about them and don't say any sure answer here! Hopefully you have some closer and clear pics to them?

Dear Sara, Thanks for your help. I didn't really think my photos were good enough for a positive ID, but we live in hopes, don't we? I have other photos, but they are of the same quality. I am very disabled with rheumatoid arthritis and can only use a tiny compact camera. Actually, it's an amazing camera and I get really good pictures with it, but not on flies as small as this. I've just checked my other pics... I don't think they'd help you. So, please, HOW should I label my photos of this fly when I post them on Flickr? With best wishes, Ginks |

Dear Ginks thanks so much for your answer, and I'm sorry to hear that, hopefully everything will be fine for you soon. Well, it's better i don't say anything about species for sure, I am afraid. So just can say it is Chloropidae family and Chloropinae subfamily, about both threads that you put! ![]() Hopefully I can see other your pics in DI soon. ![]() Good luck my friend Sincerely yours Sara |
