Am I right if I think this is a syrphid? Can anyone of you tell me the genus? Found today in Dornbirn under fallen leaves in open wood, (among others Fagus, Fraxinus, Quercus).

Hello,

One can see the posterior breathing tubes, so it should be a syrphid larva. Looking in the Rotheray doesn't bring anything (for me).

Graham Rotheray told me that it is Eupeodes, probably grossulariae

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
