I can't distinguish between the pictured fly and pictures of known E. taeniops, but considering how far wrong I can be on occasion, I'm hoping that someone here can confirm/deny this for me.

Place: Chongwe District, Lusaka Province, Zambia.
Habitat: Citrus orchard a few days following extensive fire (relevant?)
Date: 25.10.2011
Size: 12mm?

Should I take the lack of replies to indicate that it is distinctive and therefore I can label it with confidence, or that it's not distinctive and nobody wants to hazard a guess?

Hi, Will

I don't know if there are any Eristalinus species in Zambia that can be confused with E. taeniops. But I know E. taeniops can be found there and your fly looks enterely like E. taeniops.

I know it isn't much help, but at least is an opinion Wink

With a second opinion that it looks just like E. taeniops, I'm much happier to file it with a "caution" note.

Thanks!
