So I'm gaining a false sense of confidence with these, and offering a potential family for this one not enclosed in bracketed question marks. This is largely because a Platypezid popped up when I opened the site and it looked a lot like it, tracked it back to the gallery and decided that it was likely. Anyway, it's not a good photograph because the fly was a) tiny and at an awkward angle, which combined to mean that my field of focus kept shifting as I and the camera wobbled. Sorry for that. Place:Chongwe District, Lusaka, Zambia Habitat: Ornamental garden? Date: 29/09/2011 Size: probably pushing 4-5 mm? Only recall it being tiny. Hybotidae, Hybotinae. Now I tell you to start collecting, too.

Thanks for that, have changed title to suit. I have been told to collect before, but as an amateur don't feel that I would contribute sufficiently to justify it (to myself). However, I have recently started to compromise by keeping hold of the intact dead whenever I come across them (mostly on windowsills and in swimming pools), and you've reminded me that I need to get around to sorting them out before they all rot...
