Eyes extend very far down, gena hardly visible, frons almost vertical, long arista >3x length of 3rd antennal segment, pubescent at base in basal half, body entirely reflective, slightly bluish-black, squama slightly brownish with brown edge and cilia, haltere dark brown, scutellum with long, crossed apicals and many seta all over disc. Sternopleurals 1:1. Suggestions welcome, please. Lincoln UK late April 2011.
PS It's not a Lonchaeid is it? Answering myself, I think the squamae are too well developed.

Hi Phil,
it looks like a female Hydrotaea (subgenus Ophyra). I think it is H. capensis, let me know if it matches.
Stephane.

If the lower calypter is brown with dark border and frontal triangle not reaching the lunule, prefer Hydrotaea ignava.
Stephane.

PS
Now I see it is Muscidae, it runs smoothly to Hydrotaea ignava as you suggested Stephane so many thanks.

Regards
Phil Porter
