Hello,

I have no idea what sort of fly this could be. Size, approximately, about 5 mm, if I remember it right. Location: Germany, Rhineland-Palatinum, 53572 Unkel, River Rhine valley, dry and warm habitat, June 19th, 2011.

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Acroceridae. No key at hand, here, but if Jorge spots it he will jump on it. Wink

This is an Acrocera sp. And most likely to be A. orbiculus - (current name accepted http://www.faunae...p?id=59493) precisely with the same features I can see in mine specimens from Serra da Estrela.
Do you know the prevalence of the spider families in the location? I'm asking this because the acrocerids are endoparasitoids of spiders, mainly in Lycosidae, Thomisidae, Salticidae , some I can recall now.

Hello Jorge,

thanks for the determination of the fly. I add a second foto - perhaps it makes the determination a little bit more clear.

There are a lot of spiders around here, but most common are the Lycosidae.

Greetings from the river Rhine valley to Portugal,

Michael
