Hello, I've found this near Pavia (Linarolo - Italy). 05/10/2010. I think it can be Sargus bipunctatus. Can you confirm? Thanks. Roberto

Females of S. bipunctatus, in Northwest Europe, have only the sides of the first two tergites orange coloured. This specimen has entirely orange tergites with dark spots in the middle. I think this is another species. Greets, Ectemnius |

I don't think the north of Italy can be considered north-west Europe. In fact I'm confused looking at the tergites. Thanks Ectemnius!

I visited the collection of Naturalis in Leiden, Netherlands. I was able to see the Palearctic Stratiomydae. There is a Southern European species which looks just like yours and also this one: http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=5&thread_id=33996 Sargus maculatus Lindner 1936 Greets, Ectemnius |
