Could anyone please help me ID these please? Location South Central England near Portsmouth. Date of images, early October 2011.

These don't look like Tachinidae.
The first one looks like Muscidae and the second looks like a Calliphora sp (Calliphoridae).

Agreed ... the first has no bend in the median vein (very rare in tachinids) and has shaded rm & m-cu (rare in tachinids) so it is a muscid ... the second just looks like a Calliphora (big, blue, not very bristly, deep gena) so it must be a Calliphora Smile

Would be better to post these in separate threads too - otherwise it gets confusing Wink

For the first one, the dark markings on the wings and the small gap between the eyes seem to match a Phaonia errans male:

Phaonia fuscata males have similar markings on their wings but the gap between their eyes is larger:

Change the title to attract the Muscidae experts.
