I think this could be Sylvicola fenestralis in genus Anisopodidae, but as that is the only example of a Window Midge in my book I cant be cetain. But I am very much a novice so I'm hoping this is a good guess! Well, guess sounds wrong somehow-deduction more like it! Anyway, the fly. The colours in the wings must be an interference pattern-not real colours. Could that be the origin of the name Window Midge?

Sylvicola is ok, but it is impossible to tell the species apart even from good photos. Genitalia are needed... This key http://www.online...p?key_no=1 also tells what characters need to be seen. |
