Hi, This Tachinid is from August 2010 and was seen in Rudolstadt, Thuringia. A rather similar one of this year in the same town was identified as Huebneria affinis (http://www.dipter...ost_177923). So is this the same species or did I overlook an important character, and which? Thanks for help, Sundew Sundew attached the following image: ![]() [180.35Kb] |

I'd go for Huebneria - well done It looks like Huebneria in shape & colours but it also has 3 humeral callus bristles in a row and I think I can even see a hair on the hind coxa too, which is a very rare feature on tachinids

Many thanks, Chris, especially for pointing out some decisive characters! If I meet a dark bristly one in the future, I shall first ask to show me the hind coxa . |

Well, in tachinids it occurs in a few genera, such as Carcelia ... and it is very hard to see (unless you are lucky) but I think in this case it backs up the overall look of Huebneria in the photos

The apical scutellar are erect so there is no way this is Carcelia. Moreover, the tibiae are dark (red in nearly all Carcelia). So Huebneria affinis it is ! Theo |

Great - I'll try hard to keep everything in mind! (More than twice I don't want to bother you with the same species - really hope I shall succeed!) |
