Lovely fly - looks like the genus Rutilia ... I have the revision of it here but (as usual) I'd need the specimen to key it properly

Yes, it is in Rutilia (s.l.), difficult genus, review by Crosskey in the 1970's but not all my material fits. Theo |

Steve I was not aware of that pdf, thanks for pointing it out. Thanks Chris and Zeegers. The fly is very rare. I'm lucky if I spot one a year, so of course I kill it. |

I'm fairly sure that they are a very unusual-looking Dexiinae
