That is because everybody walks with in a big circle around the subject Gymnosoma in the Mediterrean... me included. But you are right, it looks more like inornatum than costatum. I'm very cautious here, since I'm actually not convinced (at this moment) that inornatum is a bona fida species Theo |

Would be nice if some DNA work could contribute to the information we have and help taxonomists simplify the number of species ... but, knowing DNA, it would probably just add more morphologically-unidentifiable species than we have already ![]() They tried a similar exercise with Belvosia in the neotropics and it has possibly doubled the number of taxa when even the existing species didn't have enough morphology to split them. But I think I won't be able to make all european species of Gymnosoma, because some specimens are very hard to find (especially some doubtful species, like G. brachypeltae oraz G. inornatum).
