I am not sure but I think the cranefly in my picture is Tipula fascipennis. Am I correct, please? Photo taken in Burgundy, central France. Thank you. chrisinburgundy attached the following image: ![]() [126.65Kb] Edited by chrisinburgundy on 30-08-2011 16:13 |

Not Tipulidae..Looks like Mycetophilidae or Keroplatidae, maybe some Orfelia sp...just guessing though. Wing markings look similar to ; http://www.dipter...to_id=7200 Edited by Roger Thomason on 30-08-2011 16:38 |

Thank you, Roger, for pointing out that it is not a Tipula. I agree that the wing markings look similar to the Orfelia sp. in your link but it seems that it's going to be difficult to obtain a specific ID. I do have another photo of the same insect which shows more clearly the head and thorax but I'm not sure how far it will get me. I am posting a copy of the photo in case it might be helpful. Thank you for any further comments that may be forthcoming. chrisinburgundy attached the following image: ![]() [122.85Kb] Edited by chrisinburgundy on 30-08-2011 20:30 |
