Am I right in thinking that this is Exorista rustica, please?

No. It is a Sarcophagidae fly.

Thank you so much, jorgemotalmeida, for putting me right on the species. I have not only checked out the Sarcophagidae family but also found a different shot, albeit of poorer quality, of the same fly showing more of the abdomen pattern.

I am now wondering if it might be S. carnaria but accept that it may only be possible to describe it as Sarcophagidae sp.

Sorry, but it's impossible to identify most sarcophagids without examining the male genitalia - especially the group that includes S.carnaria/variegata/subvicinia etc. Wink

I rather suspected that that might be the case and so am not surprised. Sarcophagidae sp. it is then. Smile
