Hi, this fly was about 12mm long. Is it an Anthrax-species? Best regards, Daniel danielv attached the following image: ![]() [64.1Kb] |

Also I think Anthrax sp. A perfect image with well seen markings; maybe characteristic of a species that a specialist should identify |

The trouble is despite the quality of the photo it does not show the feature necessary to separate Anthrax from Spogostylum (2nd antennal segment). Therefore, even if we make the assumption that this is a species on the Greek list (and it might not be) one needs to be familiar with all species of these genera to make a reliable identification, and I am not. So an identification beyond reasonable doubt is not possible. However, if we make the further assumption that this is a common species (ie one i have specimens of), then it fits very well with my specimens of Spogostylum tripunctatum. On the balance of probability i would call it that, but do please keep this qualification in mind. |

Unfortunately I couldn't make an optimal photo of the antenna, but I zoomed the head-region. Maybe it helps to correctly classify this fly... danielv attached the following image: ![]() [21.52Kb] |
