8-9 mm (est.), Clitheroe UK, 18 August 2011. I walked past this in the street assuming it was a smallish C. vicina or similar, but something (maybe the brown wing bases) made me go back and have another look. I only got in one shot before it flew away, and now I'm really confused - a red tip to the scutellum - and is that a subscutellum? - (but no strong abdominal bristles). Frustrating not to have the head Any (polite) suggestions?

Based on the antenna (... I know....) I'd say it is... Calliphora. Theo |

Thanks Theo, I thought it must be. Is the pale scutellum a teneral thing? I wasn't even sure that was an antenna! |
