Chironomidae Procladius choreus? female

Hi,

This looks like the female Procladius choreus posted by empeejay on this thread.

Taken on 28th June in the early hours, it was on my table. Size ~4.5mm. Near Lincoln UK.

I can crop closer if needed.

With the hairy wing it should be Procladius (Holotanypus). American females of the subgenus are generally not identifiable to species. Your European species seem to have more color that can possibly distinguish them. The key to British males lists darkened distal part of wing as a character that separates choreus from one other species, but you have five species of the subgenus in total.

Thank you John, mine does appear to have a darkened distal part of wing.
