Hello, From Turkish Caucasian region in July of last year I have a Stratiomys image. Typical with reddish scutellum. Can it be Stratiomys armeniaca? I also attached the original text. Its ID very much appreciated. Muhabbet Cesa attached the following image: ![]() [90.1Kb] Edited by Cesa on 26-07-2011 18:46 |

the description refers to a female, the fly is a male (holoptic eyes).. description of the male should remark: yellow halteres; orange scutellum; tibiae not totally black; scutum totally black; third antennal segment reddish; abdomen is not black as it is described for the female (and it seems to have no median band..). Nevertheless a very nice Stratiomys. To me it's a Stratiomys noidea. Martin Hauser surely knows this one. Edited by jorgemotalmeida on 26-07-2011 19:41 |

Bigot, J. M. F. 1879. Dipteres nouveaux ou peu connus. 11e partie. XVI: Curiae Xylophagidarum et Stratiomydarum (Bigot). Ann. Soc. Ent. Fr. ser. 5, 9: 183-208 [1879.08.27], 209-234 [1879.11.12]. The description of the male maybe can appear in this document.. I do not have it. |

It is either ruficornis if the antenna are completely red or armeniaca if the basal antennae segments are black... it is hard to say from the picture.. Cheers Martin Martin Hauser |
