 UK Tachinidae Huebneria affinis

UK, Suffolk, mixed habitat, 2km from the coast. 24th July 2011, size 9mm approx I've seen Carcelia tibialis regularly over the past few weeks, but this looked slightly different in the field. On closer inspection, The eyes are shorter, 3 bristles on katepisternum and scutellar apicals raised, tibia are blackish, 3 reclinate orbitals. (post dc bristles of no use - 2 on one side, 4 on the other) This leads me to Huebneria affinis ! Comments welcome, Steve edited: I meant C. lucorum rather than tibialis

It would be an extremely good record if it was Huebneria - because that species is only known from one small patch of coast in Sussex. This would definitely have to be checked out before we could accept it  Now, as for comments I'd say that it is definitely likely to crop up in other sites that have the host species ... so a very interesting record

Thank you Erikas and Chris. As Chris says, although common in parts of Europe, Huebneria is currently known from just one site on the Southern coast of the UK. The regular host Arctia caja is common in many coastal areas though,including here in Suffolk. This will go to Chris for a formal id |
