Just to share with you this small but very nice Bombylid. With the help of Jorge it was IDed as Heterotropus spec. Photos not too good, due to strong wind and competition by Leptomydas, see recent additions to gallery. I must say that the first photo almost resembles a Bembix in the posterior part (wasp)... the abdomen is really incredible - seems very Bembix(ish). In this case only with specimen at the hand we can tell the species. Nevertheless it is among one of the most interesting genera in Bombyliidae.

Really beautiful. There are two species of Heterotropus in Turkey; pyrus and taurus. Both described by Bowden in 1967. "Two new species of Heterotropus Loew (Diptera: Bombyliidae) from Turkey. Entomol. Mon. Mag. 103: 36–39." Do you have this publication? |

seems very Bembix(ish) More Bembecinusish :-) Actually, I had no clue what I was looking at, even Therevidae crossed my mind...they are very small and overall do not look very Bombylid like! Do you have this publication? no, but I understood further ID is impossible from photo. But if there is a pdf of the paper it would be nice to have it available!
