This tiny fly was photographed in a forest of Beech (Fagus sylvatica) in NE Spain during June. The leaves of these trees were plaged with galls characteristic of Mikiola fagi (cecydomiidae). Adults are much harder to see and photograph than the galls. I found this fly near the galls (caution: the leave in the picture is not a beech though) : can this be the adult? ...or a cecydomiidae at all? Thank you ! I'm not sure, but it looks more like Sciaridae. It seems to have too many wing veins for the gall making Cecidomyiidae, all of which are in subfamily Cecidomyiinae. |
