Are you sure this is Platystomatidae? Though it is difficult to see, the ocelli seem to be absent and cell cup seems to be pointed posteriorly, which would indicate Pyrgotidae. |

Thanks Keith. Unfortunately I don't have it on hand any more, gone off to BOLD. If my malaise trap throws up another one I will be able to check for the features you have pointed out though. Cheers, Graeme |

Pyrgotidae: Toxurini Cardiacera sp. I am going to visit AM in February (keep my fingers crossed) specially for Australian Pyrgotidae. Any ideas where can I find some additional material? Edited by Nosferatumyia on 06-07-2011 09:28 Val |

Thanks for the ID Valery. You need some background info regarding my stuff. Unfortunately the AM has not incorporated most of what I have sent into their collection. My shipments have not been unpacked. This is unsatisfactory for BOLD's requirements and Paul Hebert is negotiating for a more satisfactory outcome. Possibly the ANIC will take them. So basically as it stands at the moment they are unavailable. What I can do though is try and collect some for you. I'll let you know if I have anything. Cheers, Graeme |

Dear Graeme: Any light (or rarely, Malaise) trapped pyrgotids are appreciated, however, alcohol sunk stuff is less preferable (at most it is good for dissection and/or DNA sequencing); properly pinned flies look better. Thank you in advance, Keep in touch (via private msgs, etc.) Val |
