It has some similarity with T variipennis to me, but a zoom of the nervation in the stigma area and of the antennas could be good arguments to prove this fealing Wink

Thank you for helping me on this one.
I made a couple of full size crops of the details you asked for.
Unfortunately, due to dark conditions in the forest, I had to go for rather high ISO, so the pictures are not too good.

Well, I think this is T. (P.) varipennis. Note the short and stout legs and short wings (do not extend beyond tip of abdomen).

Well, the habitus make me really think about T varipennis, but in my doc one of the first characteristic it has in the key is a incomplete R2, witch does not extend to the costal (look here)

Stubb writes (Test key for Tipula, p 13): "In some species (pseudovariipennis, submarmorata and varipennis) vein R2 is usually incomplete, not reaching the wing margin, but examples with this vein complete make the character unreliable."

Thus, I think this specimen is varipennis.

Best wishes, Jukka

This is indeed the female of Tipula (Pterelachisus) varipennis Meigen, 1818.
Attached is the photo of the male.
See http://ip30.eti.uva.nl/ccw/ for more details on this species.
Please allow usage of this picture for the CCW website (if so, please mail permission to p.oosterbroek@chello.nl).
Thanks in advance. Pjotr
