Yes, it does look very similar, though the abdominal colour is different. It would probably require a good series to be really sure so keep collecting

I have another one which shows the same abdominal colour. THe two of them have the same DNA. Unfortunately it will be some time before the original fly will be processed, to see if it shares the DNA of the other two. About 6 months. Hopefully some more will turn up so that I can send you a specimen.

The calypters seem to be particularly large. What does that signify? Greater manouverability? |

Thanks for sorting out a specimen - all gratefully received Not sure about calypters - some genera have very large ones (Leucostoma) and others have smaller ones (Rhinphoridae) ... but I don't think there is anything in their ecology that would suggest why this is so.
