Thank you Paul, srangely I looked at Chyliza but didn't recognise it! I've searched out the species we have, according to the key this should be Chyliza nova. Does anyone agree? http://www.dipter...soidea.pdf http://cubits.org... |

I'd rather say C. leptogaster.

The key mentions C. leptogaster as having a darker frons and females "the upper side of the humeri usually entirely black" where C. nova has a more orange frons and the female has "at least the upper side of the humeri usually entirely yellow." Mine is a female I think? http://cubits.org... |

I think it's a female, but difficult to be sure. Anyway : humeri (shoulders) are entirely black, and the frons is black to a great extent, isn't it ?

Woops, I was looking at the name under the photos on the pdf! The names are above the photos, so that would fit C. leptogaster. ![]() The humeri I assumed to be the femur, as the humerous bone is between the shoulder and elbow as to speak but for flies it's maybe different!
