Hello, I found this fly at the beginning of June in Germany, Kyffhäuser on a dry meadow. Is it possible to identify the genus or even the species? Thanks a lot and best wishes, Frank

Oh yes, it is a fly, a Conopid, a Sicus, a S. ferrugineus

From a comprehensive publication by Jens-Hermann Stuke I learned that Sicus species can only be distinguished by the shape of the theca of the females. (That's why I have several unidentified Sicus photos in store and always try to get a good lateral shot.) We cannot see a theca here, so what characters make you sure, dear Ruud, that we have S. ferrugineus here (except the fact that it is a very frequent species)? |
