South west Norway, June 5th. Found on rock in boggy area, a few meters from the sea. Possible to identify? Leif G attached the following image: ![]() [35.65Kb] Edited by Leif G on 05-06-2011 20:30 |

Looks like Anthomyia procellaris/pluvialis to me. |

Thanks Jeroen! If I go back to the site and collect a specimen. How to separate between the two species? |

I think it is not A. pluvialis because the black patch on the side of the thorax is not divided into two separate spots. But A. procellaris is still not the only possibility as you also have A. imbrida, which this could well be, particularly as the hind margin of the black patch seems indented. Could you post a full-resolution crop of the hind tibia? I think I can see more than nine anterodorsal setae, which again would suggest A. imbrida. |

Thank you for helping on this. I tried to make an image that will show the details you need, and this is the best result. I hope this is ok. Leif Leif G attached the following image: ![]() [38.25Kb] |

No, I think my imagination was working too hard again . Because the ads are pointing straight out of the picture plane I really can't see how many there are. Have a look on the next one you find. |

OK, thanks very much for looking into this for me. I'll visit the location soon and try to get some better shots of this fly. Hopefully new pictures could give it a name. Leif |
