I am having trouble identifying this handsome fly. (Image quality is not the best, as I was out photographing birds, not flies, on this occasion, and took this with a ridiculously long lens!)

The keys, the fact that there is only one obvious cross-vein, suggest Dolichopodidae, but I cannot find anything that remotely resembles it. In fact it looks much more like Anthomyiidae, except for that missing anterior cross-vein.

Can anyone help, please?

Size: ~10mm.
Photographed on vegetation, wet woodland, near water.
Radley Lakes, Oxfordshire, England,

Anomalous Muscoidea or some acalyptrate fly. Except for the weak or missing crossvein the wing and general appearance is typical for Muscoidea.

Did you mean Anthomyiidae rather than Anthomyzidae?

Thanks for the reply,

Cross vein is definitely missing, or very weak. This is confirmed by a second photo.

Yes, I meant Anthomyiidae, as suggested by the similarity to male Anthomyia procelleria.

Cheers
