I found this fly in the back yard a couple of days ago. I tried looking it up on the internet and that's how I got to Metopia sp. Am I correct? And is it at all possible to identify the species? It was, at a guess, about 7 mm in length. Oh, and I'm in the Netherlands (Flevoland). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance ![]() ![]() |

This is a female Metopia spec. I expect in your back yard Metopia argyrocephala but I need a male specimen for confirmation. Liekele |

So it is definitely a Metopia species. That's all I could ask for. Thanks, Liekele! ![]() I will keep an eye out for a male specimen then. They are supposed to be similar but way darker. Right? Are there any characteristics I should pay special attention to? Edited by Enmos on 24-05-2011 14:48 |
