Hello, Band-like pale markings maybe characteristic for identification for this small, vernal fly. Many thanks for any help. Muhabbet Cesa attached the following image: ![]() [149.82Kb] Edited by Cesa on 22-05-2011 05:46 |

Nosferatumyia wrote: Platystoma nitidiventre Hendel Dear Valery, I attached the original figure by Hendel as "nitidiventre", Taf.1 fig.7. It seems quite different from our fly, when we consider wing pattern important. Could you please tell me which part of the body is characteristic for identifying nitidiventre. I can take a closer and sharper photo of the body according to your reply. Many thanks for your helps. Muhabbet & Ahmet Cesa attached the following image: ![]() [12.23Kb] |

Dear Muhabbet and Ahmet: Platystoma of Middle East is still a group known mainly from the material described by Hendel (1913) and Hennig (1945), and needing a revision, which could involve more extensive material, including genital characters and understanding of variability. To my knowledge, Platystoma wing pattern is highly variable, and number of hyaline dots may be lesser in smaller specimens. So far, specimens from Mehadia IDd by Hennig as "nitidiventre" (ZMHB ) are the only more or less fitting your picture, and we could leave it as "P. cf. nitidiventre Hendel".
