Hi,
I feel I should know that medium-sized fly I saw in a Berlin wood about a week ago, but it doesn't match anything in my Muscid photo collection. So help is greatly appreciated!
Many thanks, Sundew

Ah - that means Tachinidae or Rhinophoridae or Sarcophagidae or Calliphoridae! However, I still have no idea. Where are the experts?

I'm somewhat afraid since the tachinid men didn't answer, but in my opinion it is a Macquartia (Tachinidae).

That's interesting - I did not think of a Tachinid because of the small antennae. Thanks for the suggestion!

And even more interestingly, it clearly has

So it must be M. pubiceps.

Rare species, congratulations.

Wow, Theo - you are so keen-eyed! What you see even in poor-quality photos is amazing. That encourages me to go on with photographing grey unimpressive muscid-like flies that may turn out to be something special. Many thanks indeed!
