Hi Phil,

It's probably Dasysyrphus venustus, female as I have had that (photos in gallery). You would need to see the face to be certain though as there is a similar one without the dark stripe on the face, D. hilaris

Hello Janet, how're you doing? I've also had a few Dasysyrphus venustus lately but I thought the bars were rather narrow on this one. Just shows I can't do anything without a dead one and a key!!
