Hello!

Some days ago in my forum there came up the question, whether the blue and green colouration of Cynomyia mortuorum is sex specific. Yesterday I found several individuals of this species (the first in 2011), and all were blue. If I remember correctly, I find green individuals mostly in late summer.

As long as you don't go to Central Asia, this is always Cynomyia mortuorum indeed.

By the way, the colouration is variable but NOT sexual dimorph. I'm not sure, but it is my impression that the green colours occur in acid regions.
The blue colour is 'typical'

Thanks, that explains the plus of blue individuals here. We have mostly triassic limestome.
Best regards,
Jürgen
