Newly Molted Dacinae? (Malaysia)

Hi, i found this newly molted fly in a forest reserve park in Negeri Sembilan (Malaysia) last Sunday. Body length about 6mm. Side profile. click for 1024pixel image

Judging from this long antenna with bare arista and no frontal setae, could be a Platystomatidae or a Dacinae (Bactrocera, Dacus, etc.) of the Tephritidae. The pale creamy patch on the pleura shows that the second option is more probable.

This second photo clearly shows additional characters: 1) very large proboscis; 2) no scapular setae; 3) antenna short as for dacine species; 4) postpronotal lobe (humerus) rounded; 5) both frontal and orbital setae wanted. I do not know such a Dacini. Val |

On the other hand, all these characters are present in a similarly colored, yellow-white and brown wasp-like oriental genus Xenaspis Osten Sacken of the Platystomatidae. And this is exactly what we have on the photos!!! Val |
