It look likes Phaonia errans, or some other Phaonia, but not Helina evecta (reddish legs!)

thank you erikas and stephane - looking through the muscidae photo gallery is daunting - is there an atlas of the muscidae of britain or a 'twenty most common spring species' to help a beginner get started? i shall post one more picture tonight that I took today with quite pronounced triangles (do these have a technical name) on the abdomen thanks ever so much for your replies - keen to learn and may make it a project for the year as I am doing a mini-survey of this particularly large city cemetary nigel pinhorn, exeter, devon |
