whilst looking for resting moths on tree trunks i keep coming across this fly - no doubt very common but it would be good to put a name to it many thanks nigel pinhorn exeter, devon |

I'd guess Helina evecta, but if you change the title to 'Muscidae' someone more knowledgable will come along

The tibiae seem too pale : I think it's a Phaonia, maybe P. errans, but the picture is too small.
