Dear friends, I think it is Cylindromyia sp. female. Unfortunately, the fly is studded with drops (it was early morning) but is it possible to guess species group at least? This image is not mine (author - Marina Taiga). Russia, Kemerovo, 30.07.2009 08:00 Dima Dima DD attached the following image: ![]() [64.43Kb] |

It looks like it has no pv-bristle but this is very hard to judge from photos and a bristle may have broken off. I'll jump in and guess perhaps Cylindromyia brassicaria - but let's wait for Theo

If it really is from Siberia, and not from Russia, I'm not going to comment, since there are several Eastern species around with which I'm not familiar. Theo |

Thank you, Chris and Theo, it's an April 1st JOKE! ![]() It's NOT a photo but fine art: pure vector drawing created in Adobe Illustrator!!! However, this drawing has a real reference photo: http://macroid.ru...mp;lang=en, the fly is from Russia. There are two enlarged crops and wireframe image of this great work

Yes, Marina said that she worked for a week! More than 3300 vector objects here... She likes to set such tasks (photorealistic images) and to solve them.

Could have fooled me (not, it did). The colouration of the wing was very usual for Cylindromyia, that did make me doubt Theo |
