These are photos of a large collection of Baltic amber. I wish to identify the inclusions (to family level).

I would greatly appreciate any help. If possible, I would also like to know on what characteristics the identification is based, so that I can use this information when comparing multiple specimens (to avoid posting unnecessarily great amounts).

I seem to be having trouble attaching images. Even though I think it should fulfill the requirements.
Any ideas?

That particular specimen is Sciaridae. If you have a chance to visit the Maastricht Natural History Museum I can have a look at your material.

Click on the photo with the rigth button, choose COPY IMAGE URL and then paste here. Then select the link and press the button at the right of envelope symbol (see below the box).

This is the procedure you must do in the next time. Wink However the best would be uploading the photos here in the forum. In this way we can guarantee that the photos cannot be lost. With the former procedure, if the host is not available anymore.. the photos will be no visible here in the forum.. (there are several cases here in the forum where photos are no longer available, specially those using imageshak or alike.)

Nice photo.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
