really??!!! To be honest, Mark, I did not see the "bristles" on femur III. I considered it impossible to be morio. But now you say Melanosoma...I see the small antenna. Good fun! Do you remember that in Amsterdam that I never saw this genus! It is my dream to collect it. Collected in Austria. But it means it should occur in Hungary as well. The length of the proboscis caused me to deviate from M. occulta. That species has a very short proboscis: Gallery picture of M. occulta. The coloration of the wings is striking, and the abdomen is not dorsoventrally flattenend as in Myopa. With this head, only Myopotta and Melanosoma remain. Just after we met, I had the luck to work through the Conopidae in Amsterdam, which made it easier to visualize the alternatives. Mark.

Well, Mark, when you mentioned Melanosoma...I saw it also at once. True, the proboscis is typical....imagine I have a portrait on occulta, made by Jorge, in my office!

well, besides the features that Mark pointed out, the yellow head and the very strong wrinkles had deviated me from Myopa occulta.. but I was not sure what it could be. Now this is the first time I see a Melanosoma! One strong candidate to go for the gallery!  May it will be possible to collect this one?

100% right. When looking at first I thought: okay Myopa: or morio or occulta. This proves again it is not wise to react immediately and rather think a bit more carefully. BTW, as I said I have never seen it before not even on a photo...so my day is good!
